  10.        This chapter describes the known problems with the current
  11.        release of the IRIS InSight products and how to work around
  12.        them.
  13.

  15.        5.1  _I_R_I_S__I_n_S_i_g_h_t__L_i_b_r_a_r_y
  16.  
  17.           +o Some glossary terms (underlined; or blue, italicized
  18.             terms in the content) might be missing from the
  19.             Glossary.  When you click on such a term, the viewer
  20.             may beep, indicating a warning that the term was not
  21.             found.
  22.  
  23.           +o Make sure the (global) InSight glossary book is
  24.             installed (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t__g_l_o_s_s._b_o_o_k_s._g_l_o_b_a_l) either locally;
  25.             or if you are accessing the InSight Library from a
  26.             remote machine, on that particular machine/server.

  29.        5.2  _I_R_I_S__I_n_S_i_g_h_t__V_i_e_w_e_r
  30.  
  31.           +o It has been found that the old _i_n_f_o_n_a_v._s_w._b_a_s_e
  32.             subsystem, part of the original _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_f_o_l_i_o release,
  33.             is incompatible and conflicts with this version of
  34.             insight and insight_base. For that reason, it (the
  35.             _i_n_f_o_n_a_v product) should be removed from the system
  36.             prior to installation.  The problem will manifest
  37.             itself in the inability to read the online books.
  38.  
  39.           +o Proximity searching does not function in Japanese books
  40.             since the current proximity algorithm is based on space
  41.             delimited words and Japanese words may not be space
  42.             delimited.
  43.  
  44.           +o In boolean searches using two or more words, only the
  45.             first word will be highlighted in the text.
  46.  
  47.           +o Expanding a search using wildcards may highlight
  48.             improper characters in the text.
  49.  
  50.           +o After installing a new version of the viewer, you
  51.             should remove any local defaults that may have been
  52.             left around by previous versions.  To do this, give
  53.             this command before executing IRIS InSight for the
  54.             first time after an installation:

  74.           +o Scrolling in the viewer may seem "jumpy" due to the
  75.             rendering of images inline.  A workaround is to use the
  76.             line up and line down buttons in the scroll bar, or the
  77.             <Page Up> and <Page Down> buttons on the keyboard.
  78.             Another alternative is to use the "Settings..." option
  79.             from the Options menu and click on "Figures/Media In-
  80.             line?" to not include figures inline.
  81.  
  82.           +o If the IRIS InSight viewer is running and a new book or
  83.             set of books are installed, IRIS InSight will not
  84.             immediately "see" and utilize the new content. In order
  85.             for IRIS InSight to view the newly-installed book(s),
  86.             close and restart the IRIS InSight application.

  88.           +o Occasionally, the book viewer window might be narrower
  89.             than required to display the full width of a table (or
  90.             other in-line object). A warning message:

  98.           +o Make sure that when printing you select one or more
  99.             entries in the Print Window Table-of-Contents area.

  101.           +o Printing portions of a book (or a whole book) with
  102.             graphics included can often take a substantial period
  103.             of time. You may wish to consider printing without
  104.             including graphics. From the Print Window, click on
  105.             "Print Graphics?" to not include graphics in the
  106.             printed output.

  108.           +o For Systems Administrators, it should be noted that the
  109.             directory /_v_a_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_e_b_t_p_u_b is installed as an
  110.             ``open'' directory, with the permissions being set to
  111.             777. This area is used to store an Insight user's
  112.             bookmarks. Note that this area can be changed through
  113.             the modification of the PUBLIC_DIR and PRIVATE_DIR
  114.             variables found in the IRIS InSight system
  115.             configuration file,
  116.             /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_s_y_s_t_e_m._i_n_s_i_g_h_t_r_c.

  118.           +o The following is a suggestion to speed navigation for
  119.             some users. This is simply done by mapping a couple of
  120.             keystrokes to specific scrolling actions. For example,
  121.             the Return Key is used to move down a line in the
  122.             Insight window, and the Space Bar is used to move down
  123.             a page. To do this, these lines go in your .Xdefaults
  124.             or app-defaults file:

  169.             "Installation Information" found in this document, or
  170.             refer to the release notes for the application that you

  174.             source, and are not installed locally, the directory
  175.             /usr/share/help should also be mounted (or copied) from
  176.             the same source. This directory contains application
  177.             helpmap files which aid SGIHelp in determining what

  180.           +o When mounting IRIS InSight books, be aware that SGIHelp
  181.             looks for books under two specific locations. One is
  182.             the default /usr/share/Insight/library/SGI_bookshelves,
  183.             which should contain the English version of all
  184.             available books. The other is the international setting
  185.             of /usr/share/Insight/library/<locale>_bookshelves,
  186.             where <locale> is the value of the LANG environment
  187.             setting. In the case where LANG is set, SGIHelp will
  188.             look first under the <locale>_bookshelves area, and if
  189.             the requested localized help information is not found,
  190.             it will fall back to the default (SGI_bookshelves) and

  246.             first available help card in your help book, you may
  247.             wish to put in a copyright notice as the first card
  248.             when you are authoring your book. That particular card
  249.             does not have to be accessible by the interface; it
  250.             basically acts as a filler to avoid a potential
  251.             problem.
